There are different levels of Professional Hair Coloring Products.

Semi-Permanent: Semi-Permanent adds color without permanently changing the natural color. The dye contains molecules that enter the hair’s outer layer. Since the molecules are small, they break down after a few shampoos. They usually last six to twelve shampoos.

• Demi-Permanent: This is a longer-lasting product that fades after twenty-four to twenty-six shampoos. This works in the same way as the Semi-Permanent color but uses medium sized molecules rather than smaller ones. It also contains a small amount of peroxide, allowing for a more dramatic color.
• Permanent Color: Both ammonia and peroxide are used for Permanent Color. Molecules enter through the hair and expand to a large size that cannot be washed away. The product lightens your hair’s natural color and then adds the new shade chosen.

 The two main ingredients in permanent Hair Color are hydrogen peroxide and ammonia.

• Ammonia: Ammonia is an alkaline which helps lighten hair by activating the hydrogen peroxide. Ammonia separates the hair and allows the dye to penetrate the outer layer of the hair.
• Hydrogen Peroxide: Hydrogen peroxide breaks down melanin and replaces the original color.

How to care for your hair after Hair Coloring:

• You should use a shampoo specially created for color-treated hair. These products contain ingredients to maximize your hair health and color.
• Keep your hair out of the sun to prevent fading. Hats and conditioners with sun protection can help protect your hair.
• Slightly wet your hair prior to swimming in chlorine. The water will help decrease the absorption of chlorine.
• Use conditioner frequently.
• Use a wide-toothed comb on wet hair instead of a brush.
• Blot your hair dry instead of wrapping it in a towel.
